Effect of desiccants application on reduction of grain moisture content, early maturity, grain yield and oil content of oilseed rape (cv. Hyola 401) in Guilan provinceر
Abstract:   (4093 Views)
To assess the effect of chemical desiccant application on reduction of grain moisture content, grain yield and oil content of oilseed rape cultivar, Hyola 401, an experiment was carried out at paddy fields of Rice Research Institute of Iran (Rasht) in 2005-2006, 2006-2007 cropping seasons. The experiment was conducted using randomized complete block design with sixteen treatments including fifteen desiccant treatments and one control treatment (without desiccant) with three replications. Desiccant treatments included: Paraquat (200, 400 and 800 g. ai. ha-1), Sodium chlorate (4, 5 and 6 kg.ha-1), Bentazone (960, 1440 and 1920 g. ai.ha-1), Ammonium glyphosate (600, 1000 and 1400 g. ai.ha-1), Glyphosate (820, 1640 and 2460 g. ai.ha-1). Results of simple and combined analysis of variance showed significant differences between the chemical desiccants and control in reduction of grain moisture while non-significant differences were observed for grain yield and oil content. During the two cropping seasons, the treatment sodium chlorate with concentration of 5 kg.ha-1 showed maximum grain yield with average of 3148 kg.ha-1 (with 10% moisture). The concentrations of 800 g.ha-1of Paraquat (11.8% grain moisture.day-1), 6 kg.ha-1 of Sodium chlorate (11.2 % grain moisture.day-1) and 1920 of g.ha-1Bentazone (12.9% grain moisture.day-1) showed the highest rate in reduction of grain moisture content following 5-6 days earlier in harvest time. The lowest rate of moisture reduction was observed in Glyphosate. Desiccant treatments used in the experiment did not reduce grain yield and oil content. It seems that these compounds can be used to facilitate earlier harvesting of rapeseed. Results of this experiment showed that Sodium chlorate with concentration of 5 kg.ha-1 was superior as compared to the other desiccants due to maximum grain yield and facilitating earlier harvest of rapeseed.
